MultiCorpora’s Web Technology Enables TERMDAT Internet Release

Brussels, Belgium, April 6, 2009 - MultiCorpora, the independent software language technology provider, today announced that the Federal Chancellery of the Swiss Confederation has officially released the online public version of their terminology database TERMDAT. The Federal Chancellery provides services to the Swiss government and the Federal Administration, as well as to the general public. Online access to the Swiss Confederation’s terminology records was previously only available via the intranet to the federal administration and public sector institutions, and to other selected partners with certificate access. According to Franco Fomasi, Head of the Federal Chancellery's Terminology Section, the initiative will help expand the information offered by the federal language services and create new opportunities for collaboration with existing partners. It will also enhance the ability of the Terminology Section to share approved multilingual terminology in the official Swiss languages, German, French, Italian and Romansh, as well as in English.

The Terminology Section maintains the TERMDAT database and facilitates the terminological exchange between the language and specialist services of the federal offices. When required, it provides support on the terminological aspects of Federal Administration projects. The Terminology Section is an active member of various national and international terminology networks, including the Conference of Translation Services of European States (COTSOES), and the Council for German Language Terminology (Rat für Deutschsprachige Terminologie, RaDT).

“We are thrilled to support the Terminology Section of the Federal Chancellery achieve its mandate by helping it implement and roll out MultiTrans’ Advanced Leveraging technology for immediate, unconditional benefit to the general public.  We believe that the greatest value in this initiative is underlying – the value which ultimately empowers the Federal Chancellery to extend the use of their approved multilingual terminology and collaborative efforts well beyond any borders,” added MultiCorpora’s Jean-Pierre Pesch, Director of Sales, EMEA.
